Bonus post about Il Gruppo dei Dodici

Our walk in Lazio south of Rome over the past ten days has been accompanied and facilitated by Il Gruppo dei Dodici – ODV, a non-profit association established in 2008 to promote and organise walks along historic pilgrimage routes. The group sees pilgrimage  routes as a key to discovering the beauty of the places along the way, with the involvement and participation of the local community, with a view to achieving sustainable development and participatory territorial planning.

The association promotes activities and walks of a spiritual nature, particularly on the Via Francigena south of Rome. It promotes the area and pilgrim hospitality and focuses on sustainable mobility, and works to improve conservation of the local cultural and natural heritage, maintenance and marking of the paths.

It promotes events, conventions, seminars and workshops, produces audio and video material for documentaries, editorialand artistic productions and photography exhibitions relating to protection of the environment, sustainable development and promotion of slow tourism and walking as an opportunity for encounters between different cultures, religions and nationalities, conveying a message of peace and tolerance.

The Association reclaims and develops new walking routes to permit enjoyment of the country's natural, cultural and historic heritage and accompanies groups of people in discovery of these aspects.

Events organised by the group include an annual International Walk from Sessa Aurunca to Rome which is open to participants from all over the world, walks along sections of the Via Francigena, the Pellegrinando Film Festival and the Francigena Festival.
