Today's itinerary may look a little insane, but it's a way of connecting the Via della Costa with the Via del Santo Volto using the Via Francigena. There may be a shorter way of connecting the two routes, in fact I'm sure there is, but it involves walking on paved roads with vehicle traffic, and we weren't sure how much. We took a minor shortcut along a gravel road, which meant we didn't come to the exact spot of the crossroads between the two pathways. But the day was long enough as it was!
Most of the walk was through the woods, so we had some shade (it's still fiercely hot). We walked along the stone roadbed of the medieval Via Francigena and over a fine old stone bridge.
In the afternoon we reached our destination, agriturismo Poderetto in Pontebosio, and were delighted to discover that it had a pool!!
