From the Douro to the Minho!
Today we left behind the foggy Atlantic Ocean and headed inland up the Rio Minho, the river forming the border between Portugal and Spain.
We followed the seashore and then the road into Caminha, where it's possible to take a ferry across the river and continue up the coast in Spain. But after slogging across the sand in the fog yesterday, we were ready for a change. So we crossed the bridge over the Couro, a tributary of the Minho, and continued upstream and inland along the Portuguese shore of the Minho.

The ecopista is a cycling and foot path along the river bank, and after walking some way beside the road, it was a welcome change. As the fog lifted, so did our spirits - especially after tasty sandwiches and a sunbathing break at the riverside Bar do Rio!
A fair breeze blew us along this pleasant path all the way into Vila Nova de Cerveira, where a room in a sparkling clean, impeccably renovated youth hostel located in the former primary school awaited us. Here we treated ourselves to the use of a real washing machine, instead of just hand-washing our socks and underwear, then bought groceries and cooked a meal in the hostel kitchen.
