Camino Frances Day 27: Viana - Logroño - Ventosa

What are you doing? Why?
- Because it's there

- graffiti in an underpass on the way into Logroño

Today we entered Rioja, our third Spanish region after Aragòn and Navarra. We set off before dawn and watched the sun rise over the vineyards, as workers headed out to start pruning the vines. We passed a gypsy encampment, still sleeping, where the smouldering embers of a very large bonfire suggested a celebration had only recently concluded.

After a couple of hours of walking we arrived in Logroño, where all the businesses were still closed but fortunately the cathedral was open, as was the church dedicated to Sant'Iago/Saint Jacques/St. James.

We continued on out of Logroño through a large park and past a reservoir where fishermen were reeling in their catch. More vineyards, wineries, and a sandwich stop in Navarrete.

Stopped for the evening in a very nice hostel in the village of Ventosa, with laundry facilities, groceries and a garden to hang out in.
