Camino Frances Day 32: Rabé de las Calzadas - Castrojerez

Pèlerin, l'amour est dans chacun de tes pas

Yesterday morning, before I even reached Burgos, I realised what the Mesetas would be all about, for me.

The Sky.

Not that we didn't pass through some pretty little villages today, or meet some nice people. But it all took place below the immensity of the most enormous and impressive Sky.

We walked on a dirt track for most of the morning, which eventually became a paved road with many more pilgrims than cars on it, passing right through the roofless ruins of the abbey of San Anton.

The road continued on into Castrojerez, passing by the church of Nuestra Señora del Manzano, where the organist began playing as soon as I entered the church - I love it when that happens! (And I'm almost 100% sure it wasn't a recording...)

We decided to stop in Castrojerez, even though it was only lunch time and we had walked "only" 25 kilometres, because it would have been another 12 km, uphill and with no shade, to get to the next place with accommodations, and it seemed like a bit too much on a sunny afternoon!

Since when did 25 kilometres feel like a rest day??

And now to explore the town!
