GR653 Via Tolosana, last part: Day 10 Anoye - Morlaas

Il cammino ci toglie tutti gli orpelli che la vita di tutti i giorni ci carica (o ci carichiamo) addosso e ci riporta all'essenziale, ci permette di essere noi stessi, senza vincoli, ed allora è facile essere felici...con poco.

(Walking takes away all the extra stuff we accumulate in our everyday lives and brings us back to what is essential. It allows us to be ourselves, and then it is easy to be happy.)

- Andrea, pellegrino italiano

Woke up to a sunny but cold day - frost on the grass, in May! In the south of France!

Once again we didn't walk far. We have been trying to stick to stages around 20-25 km long, but sometimes the availability of accommodations forces us to choose between a stage that is very short (12 - 15 km) or a stage that is very long (30 - 35 km). So far, to prevent injury caused by overdoing things, we have divided the longer stages in two. And so today we walked the second half of what could have been a very long stage... if we'd completed it yesterday.

And so we arrived in Morlaas, a town big enough to have a pub and a pizzeria (both closed on Mondays, of course) and not one but four banks! As well as a beautiful church.

But most importantly for us, the town has an excellent shop selling local fruit and vegetables, as well as a giant supermarket - right next to the pilgrim hostel, which is in the campground. It's very simple, just one room with bunkbeds, outdoor toilets and a very basic kitchen. From which we somehow managed to produce a three-course dinner!

C'est pas Versailles... But though our gîte is the cheapest yet, at €7.50 a bed, it has a huge garden, a swimming pool, tennis courts... OK, it's in a public park 😁

  1. We had very cold weather with icy wind in Morlaas, also. It was also a holiday: May Day!
