20 km
Not a great walking day - hot and humid, and we were walking on the pavement most of the day, which is hard on the feet.
Massa
For a good part of the day we were still walking amidst marble works.
Marble was everywhere - in the fountains along the path...
... on the curb...
... even in the skateboard park!
In the afternoon we came to Pietrasanta, city of artists and sculptors.
Pietrasanta is home to the painter Botero. In fact, I took an afternoon nap in the park right in front of his house. He painted some frescoes in one of the local churches:
After Pietrasanta it was another 5 km to our destination for the night: a yurt at La Selvaiana, a sort of open community inhabited by a family who take in paying guests, offering mattresses with mosquito netting in the yurta with a homemade vegan dinner and breakfast. When we arrived Pina and her daughter were making jam.
I have always wanted to sleep in a yurta.... and I have always wanted to sleep surrounded by mosquito netting! It's every bit as romantic as I thought!
